There are certain terms that might confuse a beginner, and picking out your first board might seem a bit overwhelming. Like most sports, the best way to learn to surf is to do it.

Putting in a good amount of time in the kiddies pool will mean that you are more able and experienced to take on the back break when the conditions are right. And that's the whole point, right? So let's just take a quick look at a few boards, what they are designed for, and who should buy them.

It's a great way to test out surfing, and make sure it's an activity you would like to pursue before you put a lot of money into it. There are midsize boards, often called funboards, which will give you the best of both worlds. Get fit and spend time in the pool if you need to.
