kelly slater surfing basics

Like most sports, the best way to learn to surf is to do it. Undoubtedly one of the best places in the world to learn to surf is Australia.

The main shapes of surfboards are longboards, mini-mals, fish, shortboards and hybrids of these shapes. Great for kids and smaller adults looking for a great beginners board or the experienced longboarder needing something more maneuverable. The wave is moving toward you, so if you keep moving toward it, you will be surprised at how quickly you can get there, and possible even slip right under the lip.

It takes time to master the sport of surfing, but with the right instruction it can be easier than you think. The ideal boards to learn to surf on would be 8-9 ft, and wider than usual. Stretch your neck, put your chin near the deck of your surfboard, and hurl your every thought and inspiration down the face of the wave as you paddle.

Make sure that the surf is safe before you go in. It's like learning to walk, you will fall at first, but you will get better and better.
