There are certain terms that might confuse a beginner, and picking out your first board might seem a bit overwhelming. Ranging from your experience, the waves you will be riding, your preferred style of surfing and more.
Test the water first, you might be able to get away with board shorts, but I would recommend a rash vest also. Don't be discouraged and keep at it. Save the drinking for after your surf.
In some of the more renowned surfing spots you ll likely even be able to find a pro surfer to guide you to your first wave. You can also find soft top boards which are even more ideal. The leash was another welcome addition to the surfing world.
The nose of your board should be out of the water, just enough so the board sits nicely on the water. If you are surfing on a patrolled beach make sure that you keep within the designated surfing area.
